Enabling SSH on ESXi host

If you have ESXi hosts in your enviroment, you’ll more than likely need to connect to the Shell at some point. To enable SSH, follow the below:

  • Connect to vSphere, select the Configuration tab then click Properties under the Services heading:

  • Look for SSH in the list and click options:

  • Press the Start button to start the SSH service (you can also select a startup policy if desired)

  • You might also want to check the Firewall. Select Properties under the Firewall heading and check SSH Server and press OK:

  • To test, fire up PuTTY, enter the hosts IP address and press Open:

  • Login with the hosts credentials to access the Shell:
